The former Chelsea player disclosed that his father had been abducted twice...

John Obi Mikel, a former player for Chelsea and the Nigerian national team, revealed that his father had been kidnapped on two occasions. The latest incident occurred during the 2018 World Cup, a tournament in which Mikel was an active participant. Meanwhile, Luis Diaz, the current Liverpool player, is grappling with a psychological crisis after his father was taken by unidentified individuals. In a show of solidarity, Mikel recalled the crisis of his father's abduction during an interview, noting, "My father was kidnapped while I was with the Nigerian national team at the 2018 World Cup. Just two hours before our match against Argentina, my brother informed me that my father had been kidnapped for the second time." Reflecting on the traumatic experiences, Mikel shared, "The first time my father was taken, I negotiated with the kidnappers, paid a hefty sum, and thankfully, he was eventually released. The second kidnapping was staggering. I was on the verge of one of the most crucial matches of my career." He recounted, "I was confined to my room, contemplating whether to disclose the situation to the coach and my teammates as we were set to face Lionel Messi and Argentina. I consulted my family, and despite their pleas for me not to play, I chose to keep it to myself and participate in the game. After our loss, I informed the team about the situation." Mikel also mentioned the support he received from Chelsea's administration, recalling Roman Abramovich's offer of assistance: "Roman Abramovich spoke to me, offering, 'Do you want me to send people? I can arrange to get your father out.' He assured me, 'If you need that option, I can make it happen.'"
He added, "He said, 'Don't worry. Just let me know. If you want that choice, I can do it.'
