Pique stated that the championships won by Real Madrid are easily forgotten, and he revealed refusing a specific request made by Xavi.
He also shared his perspective on the Negrera case.
Former Barcelona player Gerard Pique disclosed his stance regarding a potential comeback into the limelight by running for the position of president at the Catalan club.
Pique, who retired from professional football midway through the previous season, engaged in a comprehensive conversation with Jordi Basti in an extensive interview on Radio Catalunya. He touched upon various significant aspects, offering insights into his perception of the current state of his former club.
On the subject of potentially running for Barcelona's presidency, Pique expressed, "The matter is incredibly complex. When comparing the potential gains with the losses, it's apparent that the losses are definite. Yet, if it's about aiding the club, I would do so because of everything Barcelona has given me. The club's interests must outweigh any financial or moral benefit."
Regarding the Jose Negrera case, he remarked, "They are presently in the midst of an investigative process, so it will be possible to provide a clearer explanation once everything concludes. I've witnessed this for many years, and it's unsettling for them to claim that our victories are solely due to referees. In most matches, our wins were by a significant margin."
Addressing the term "Social Madridista," he commented, "This region houses many more individuals from Madrid than Barcelona, hence many tend to support them, and our role is to unsettle them." Pique added, "The current Real Madrid epitomizes the club's condition the most. The team does little but manages to secure results in the end. They're consistently alive in February across all competitions and reach the latter stages of the Champions League." He further stated, "When we win the Champions League, our victory is eternally remembered, but it's not the same for them. Their last Champions League win was miraculous because they were superior in every stage, but this particular tournament won't be remembered by anyone."
Discussing his relationship with Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Federation, he mentioned, "We haven't had an in-depth conversation since the incident involving a kiss. It's a very complicated situation, similar to the scenarios in politics, triggering intense emotional reactions in people."
Regarding his opinion on Vinicius Junior and Bellingham, Pique expressed, "I've always relished playing against players of their caliber. Facing them requires intense focus, and what motivates me most are such challenges. As for Bellingham, he's an exceptional, well-rounded player with all the necessary attributes."
Regarding his viewing habits for football matches, he mentioned, "I've followed El Clásico and some Andorra matches. I don't watch any matches involving Real Madrid."
Regarding his relationship with coach Xavi Hernandez, Pique stated, "I haven't had significant conversations with him since my retirement, possibly just once on the day of the league celebration when he asked me to attend, but I couldn't make it. I've only spoken with Laporta, and our interactions have been very positive."
Concluding his thoughts, Pique emphasized the importance of patience with Xavi and advocated for his continuity at Barcelona. He firmly believes that there's no one better than Xavi to manage the Catalan team.
