Following in the footsteps of Brahim Diaz, another emerging talent opts to decline Spain and instead commits to representing Morocco.

Having previously represented Spain at various age levels, 19-year-old Villarreal star Elias Akhoumash has chosen to switch his international allegiance to the Moroccan national team, following the example set by Real Madrid winger Brahim Diaz. The playmaker, who made a name for himself at Barcelona before joining Villarreal last summer, has garnered attention with his performances for the Yellow Submarines this season. Santi Denia, the coach of the Spain U-21 national team, expressed surprise at Akhoumash's decision, stating in remarks published by the Spanish newspaper "Marca": "He sent us a letter, and we accepted the decision. He wants to play for the Moroccan national team." In a related development, Akhoumash is gearing up to participate with the Moroccan Olympic team in upcoming friendlies against Denmark and the United States of America on November 16 and 21. Notably, Akhoumash has featured in 12 matches for Villarreal across all competitions this season, managing to score three goals in the Yellow Submarines' jersey.
