Erling Haaland wins Golden Boy 2020





Borussia Dortmund youngster Erling Haaland was crowned as the Golden Boy 2020 winner by Italian publication Tuttosport on Saturday, November 21
Borussia Dortmund starlet Erling Haaland is the winner of the Golden Boy 2020 award. Further cementing his status as one of the most promising talents in the world. The Golden Boy 2020 award results by Italian newspaper Tuttosport on Saturday. The youngster set to receive the award in Turin in December.

Erling Haaland beat stiff competition from players like Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati, Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho and Bayern speedster Alphonso Davies among others.

Awesome in previous Season

Haaland scored 44 goals across all competitions in 2019-20, with 16 of those coming in 18 appearances after a mid-season move from Austrian champions Salzburg to Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund.

Among all Bundesliga players last season to have scored at least 10 goals, Only Bayern star Robert Lewandowski (81.2) had a better minutes-per-goal record than Haaland (81.7).

Haaland has six goals in as many Bundesliga appearances for last season’s runners-up Dortmund this term.

The 20-year-old has found the back of the net four times through three Champions League fixtures in 2020-21, It takes his tally to 11 goals from 11 matches across all competitions.


About the Award

The Golden Boy award given by Italian newspaper Tuttosport. It is given to the best young player under the age of 21 across the European leagues. The winner now decided by an intense voting process and panel of global experts.

Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix was the winner of the award in 2019. Haaland overcame strong competition to land the prize in 2020.

Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt was winner in 2018 and Kylian Mbappe scooped the prize in 2017.

Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba and Lionel Messi are also former winners of the coveted trophy.
